Monitoring networks TEMPO, RECOR et SURFSTAT are carried by the French Rhone Mediterranean Corsica Water Agency and Andromède océanologie. These networks call on technical and scientific partners for protocol elaboration and data analyses. These partners also participate to result interpretation and spread. .

RMC Water Agency

Created by the Water Act in 1964, the Water Agency is a public State institution under the supervision of the Ministry in charge of sustainable development. Its mission is to improve water management, fight against pollution and protect aquatic environments.

The Water Agency focuses on three main areas :

  • the fight against pollution ;
  • the preservation and management of water resources;
  • the support for the improvement of knowledge and cooperation between stakeholders in the water sector.

Since the early 1990s the Agency has led specific actions on Mediterranean coastal and offshore waters.

The French Water Agency's domain of competence extends on one hand on the entire French catchment area of Mediterranean sea called Rhone-Mediterranean basin (hydrographic basin Saône-Rhône, coastal rivers in Languedoc-Roussillon, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Mediterranean coast) and on the other hand, on Corsican territory, whence the name "Rhône-Méditerranée and Corse".

Andromède océanologie

ANDROMEDE OCEANOLOGIEAndromede oceanology is a French independent company, highly experienced, able to conduct any type of project linked to the study and valuation of the marine environment.

Andromede oceanology activities are organized into three divisions: :

  • Consulting:Andromede makes bathymetry, habitats cartography, species inventories, but also ecological engineering and management plans.
  • R&D it focuses on the production of scientific knowledge, mainly on the two richest ecosystems in terms of biodiversity in the Mediterranean Sea: Posidonia seagrass and coralligenous habitat. This division is also responsible for improving the monitoring of coastal waters by evaluating the ecological status of these ecosystems through TEMPO, RECOR and SURFSTAT networks.
  • Valuation Its main missions consist in the valuation and exploration of the underwater environment and the dissemination of knowledge to the general public through the management of Laurent Ballesta’s image database. Andromede also makes documentaries, exhibitions, books, articles and illustrations in the mainstream press.

To better inform the public about the beauty and fragility of the underwater world, our office in Carnon (34) consists of an image gallery, a specialized library, a retail space dedicated to the marine environment as well as a diving center (Andromède Plongée Bio).

The University of Montpellier 2 is a research university whose education and research activities cover the following scientific and technical fields: fundamental biology, applied biology and ecology, chemistry, engineer sciences, universe science, physics and mathematics, management, education science. Education opportunities in science, technology and management is diversified (L.M.D). The university of Montpellier 2 - UM2

L'Institut des Sciences de l’Évolution de Montpellier (ISEM, CNRS, IRD, UM2) develops research works interested in biodiversity origin and dynamics but also its evolutionary mechanisms and modalities. These works concern present and past biodiversity, interest a large number of organisms and environments, and mix field approach with experimental and theoretical approaches. Institut des Sciences de l'Evolution Montpellier - ISEM

The main task of OREME is to collect, put together and share physical, chemical and biological data coming from observation in order to assess the effect of global and/or anthropogenic change and to understand the mechanisms (hazard, vulnerability) involved in their environmental effects. Its objectives are : fundamental science, education and especially long term continuous observation of the natural environment. Observatoire des Sciences de l'Univers - Oreme

The marine protected area of Agde (aire marine protégée agathoise) covers a 6152 ha area. This area includes the main development zones of Posidonia and coralligenous habitat, but also sectors with high legacy value like "l’îlot" and "Roc de Brescou". The objectives of the marine protected area of Agde are the conservation of natural heritage, integrated management of activities, the control of external factors, the interactions land-sea via the river Herault and general public awareness. The marine park concerns all of the blue coats, between Fos gulf and Marseille, i.e. around 40 km of coast untill 5 km off the coast. It manages two integrally protected marine areas where all fishing methods, scubadiving, and anchoring are forbidden. The first one, created in 1983, is located in front of Carry-le-Rouet on 85 hectares, and the second one, created in 1996, is located in front of Martigues on 210 hectares. Created in 1996, the marine observatory is an intercity council structure with a scientific, technical and educational characteristic. Its goal is to act in favour of coastal sustainable development. The 1st january 2013, it was transferred to the new municipality community of St tropez gulf (including 12 towns of which 9 are along the coast).
The goals of the observatory are stated for three objectives: (1) know coastal environment, (2) sensibilize users, (3) manage costal environments and uses.
The marine observatory is also a Natura 2000 operator for the "Corniche varoise" site.

The office for Corsican environment leads the project of the Corsican-Sardinian international marine park. The Bouches de Bonifacio Nature reserve was created after an initiative of the French Environment Ministry and the Corsican territorial collectivity. It aims at preserving and highlighting the natural heritage of this strait and extending the programme for property purchase engaged by the conservatoire du littoral and Corse du Sud department. This reserve harbours coastal and marine environments but also exceptional landscapes: Lavezzi, Cerbicale, Bruzzi or Moines archipelagos, Bonifacio's cliffs, Ventilègne lagoon... Created the 14th december 1963, The Port-Cros national Park, occupying 700 ha of land and 1288 ha of sea, is one of the oldest national park of France and the first marine park in Europe. It includes Port-Cros and Bagaud islands, Gabinière and Rascas islets as well as a marine perimeter of 600 m wide. Parc National de Port Cros

At the beginning of the 80's, on areas varying between 25 and 50 ha, le Conseil général, in partnership with professional fishermen, established three marine protected areas on the municipalities of Vallauris-Golfe-Juan, Beaulieu-sur-Mer and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. Their protection forbids anchoring, dredging, diving and all fishing methods. Conseil Général des Alpes maritimes - CG06
